WASHINGTON – The Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) issued a request for information on methods for preventing vehicles and mobile equipment from backing into workers in construction, general industry, agriculture, and the maritime industry.

OHSA said roughly 360 workers died as a result of backover accidents between 2005 and 2010. The organization added that this RFI is consistent with other agencies’ regulatory actions, including the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, which issued a Notice of Proposed Rulemaking that would require cameras in certain vehicles under 10,000 pounds. OSHA stated that those interested in submitting comments on this RFI must do so by June 27, 2012 via this website.
