SACRAMENTO, CA --- The California Department of Insurance has issued a draft of proposed changes to the state's anti-steering regulations for collision repair work on vehicles.

The proposed rules would prohibit an insurer from discussing its direct repair program or an alternative repair facility after the consumer informs the insurer that he or she has already selected a specific repair shop. Moreover, the proposed rules wouldn't permit an insurer to raise questions about the quality of the repair facility selected by the consumer.

A public hearing to address the proposed regulatory changes has been scheduled for 10 a.m. on Feb. 25 at the Employment Development Auditorium in Sacramento.
