TORRANCE, Calif. --- Honda announced that its Honda FCX hydrogen fuel cell car is the first vehicle to qualify for the $12,000 tax credit provided by the Energy Policy Act of 2005. Buyers of the vehicle, which is not yet available to the public, are eligible for the Alternative Motor Vehicle Credit. American Honda Fuel Cell Marketing Manager Stephen Ellis called the tax credit eligibility "another step toward market viability." There are just 15 Honda FXC vehicles in use now on public roads, primarily by government agencies in California and New York. The vehicle was displayed to the public at the 2007 Los Angeles Auto Show last November.
