NEW YORK – Bart Chezar, former head of the New York Power Authority's electric vehicle program and now operating as an independent transportation consultant, is trying to get luxury hybrids into New York City's black car fleet, according to the Alt Fuel Advisor publication. These cars are operated by private services to supply major business executives with upscale transportation in and around the city. They cover a lot of city miles and contribute significantly to local air pollution and fuel consumption. Chezar is working to get the fleets to add Toyota Motor Corp.'s Lexus RX400h luxury hybrid, expected to hit the U.S. market in April, to their vehicle lineup.
