Hyundai boosted the range of its 2020 Ioniq Electric to 170 miles as part of a redesign that will also bring fresh styling, safety features, and updated infotainment technology, the automaker announced today ahead of the Los Angeles Auto Show.

With the update, the Ioniq Electric adds 46 miles of range above the outgoing model (or 37%) with a new battery pack that increases capacity to 38.3 killowatts per hour from 28 kWh. The onboard charger speeds up charging to 7.2 killowatts from 6.6 kW.

When charging on a fast charger, the 2020 Ioniq Electric can reach an 80% charge level in about 54 minutes, according to Hyundai. Horsepower increases to 134 hp from 118 hp.

Hyundai expects the vehicle's equivalent miles per gallon rating to reach 133.

Hyundai is updating its entire Ioniq lineup, including the traditional hybrid and plug-in hybrid variants. The Ioniq Hybrid should reach an EPA-rated 58 miles per gallon.

New driver-assisting technology options include Highway Driving Assist and Lane Following Assist. The Ioniq models will also receive standard safety technology bundle in Hyundai's SmartSense technology that includes automatic emergency braking, adaptive high beams, and a drowsy driver alert.

The Ioniq Electric Limited will offer a 10.25-inch touchscreen to display map and vehicle operating data.
