John Dmochowsky, CAFM, MBA, senior global fleet manager for Mondelez International, took home the European Safety Fleet Manager of the Year Award at the Fleet Europe Summit in Estoril, Portugal, and was also named a runner-up in the Global Fleet Manager of the Year category.

The European Safety Fleet Manager of the Year Award goes to the person who has a direct influence on the vehicle fleet program of a multinational fleet in Europe and has contributed to the development of a fleet safety program, showing positive results related to the reduction of incident and accidents, including optimized driver behavior and leading to cost-efficiencies.

It’s the first time an American fleet manager has won an award at the event. Last year, Christine Siroux of Ingersoll Rand was awarded the European Safety Fleet Manager of the Year Award.

Dmochowsky manages a fleet of 10,100 vehicles and was responsible for creating a world class multinational fleet in just four years when the newly formed Mondelez International spun off from Kraft Foods.

Dmochowsky and his team have contributed to a significant cost-saving initiative, resulting from a significant change in the global fleet selection process, together with policy harmonization. From 2015 to 2016, there was a 21% reduction in global fleet spend, continuing until today with a total 7% reduction in the total cost of ownership between 2017 and 2019..

He attributes the awards to a holistic vision regarding global fleet management optimization at Mondelez International, along with the successful engagement of top management and team members at Mondelez from around the world. This includes David Weeks, regional fleet manager, Europe; Vincent Ricciardi, North American fleet senior manager/U.S. sales operations business lead; Diego Ferto, distribution sales manger in Mexico; and Christian Armstrong, associate director sales operations and communications in Australia.

The award for Global Fleet Manager of the Year was presented to Jorge Fernández, global category manager fleet at Roche.

The annual Fleet Europe Awards recognize outstanding achievements by fleet managers, suppliers, and start-ups.
