Volkswagen Group of America is recalling an estimated 169 2018 Volkswagen e-Golf and Golf R compact cars, as well as Audi A3 and RS3 entry luxury sedans because the rear seat frame head restraints may be improperly welded to the seat frame.

With this scenario, the rear head restraints my offer reduced stability in the event of a crash, increasing the likelihood of injury.

To fix the problem, Volkswagen and Audi will notify owners, and dealers will inspect the guide sleeves for incorrect welds, replacing the rear seat frame, if needed, at no cost to owners.

Owners can reach Volkswagen customer service at (800) 893-5298 or Audi customer service at (800) 253-2834.

Volkswagen's numbers for this recall are 72H8 (VW) and 72H9 (Audi).
