BMW Recalls Diesel Models for EGR Defect
BMW of North America is recalling an estimated 44,368 vehicles for a possible fire risk associated with the engine's exhaust gas recirculation module with an integrated cooler.

BMW of North America is recalling an estimated 44,368 vehicles for a possible fire risk associated with the engine's exhaust gas recirculation module with an integrated cooler.
Specifically, the recall includes 2013-2018 BMW 328d and 328d xDrive, 2014-2018 328d wagon and 328d xDrive wagon, 2014-2016 535d and 535d xDrive, 2015 740Ld xDrive, 2015-2017 X3 xDrive28d and 2014-2017 X5 xDrive35d vehicles equipped with the module.
If the module's cooler leaks internally, the coolant can mix with the diesel engine soot. With this scenario, the high temperature may lead to the particles smoldering and melting the intake manifold, which increases the chance of a fire.
To fix the problem, BMW will notify owners, and dealers will inspect and replace the cooler if needed. If a leak has already occurred, the engine intake manifold will also be replaced. Both repairs will be at no cost to owners.
