Ford is producing a medium-sized electric delivery van for Deutsche Post DHL to support the company’s urban parcel delivery service in Germany.

The Deutsche Post StreetScooter Work XL electric van is being produced at Ford's European headquarters in Cologne, Germany, according to a release from Ford. StreetScooter GmbH is an electric vehicle manufacturer located in Germany that is owned by DHL.

The battery-electric van aids with parcel delivery in metropolitan areas, and was created to also benefit other transport companies in the future.

Work XL is the largest delivery van in the StreetScooter portfolio, with a load volume of approximately 706 cubic feet, room for more than 200 packages, and a payload of roughly 2,811 pounds, according to the automaker. Ford will manufacture the van with a range of electric motors and lithium-ion batteries, delivering up to 120 hp and a maximum torque of 203 ft.-lb., as well as a battery capacity of up to 76 kWh.

Based on a Transit chassis the medium-sized electric delivery van is fitted with a battery-electric drivetrain and a body designed and built to StreetScooter specifications, according to Ford. Around 180 Ford employees are working in two shifts to build up to 16 Work XL models per day, providing an annual production capacity of 3,500 units.
