FCA Recalls Four Models for Rear Brakes
Fiat Chrysler Automobiles is recalling an estimated 154,337 Dodge Grand Caravans, Jeep Compasses, Dodge Journeys, and Jeep Cherokees for brake performance problems.

Fiat Chrysler Automobiles is recalling an estimated 154,337 2018-2019 Dodge Grand Caravan minivans, 2018-2019 Jeep Compass compact SUVs, 2018 Dodge Journey midsize SUVs, and 2019 Jeep Cherokee compact SUVs for brake performance problems. Specifically, the rear brake caliper pistons may have insufficient coating which can cause gas pockets to form, potentially reducing rear brake performance.
In the event of reduced braking performance, there is an increased chance of a crash.
An investigation by the automaker uncovered that certain shipments of a supplied brake-system component had not been manufactured to specification and were inadvertently installed on the vehicles in the spring of 2018. Approximately 33% of the vehicles being recalled are presently in dealer hands, according to FCA.
To fix the problem, FCA will notify owners, and dealers will bleed the brake system, at no cost to owners.
FCA is unaware of any related injuries or accidents due to this issue, and there have been no customer complaints.
Owners may contact FCA customer service at (800) 853-1403. The recall begins Sept. 28. FCA’s number for this recall is U86.
Additional vehicles will be subject to recall in Canada (about 19,066), Mexico (about 900), and other markets outside the NAFTA region (about 35,562).
