Only 7% of the vehicles purchased by the federal government during Obama's presidency were hybrid or battery electric powered, despite President Obama's call for 1 million such vehicles on the road by 2015.
Obama quietly scaled back expectations in March when it became clear the goal set out in his 2009 executive order would not be met, reports Bloomberg. Low gasoline prices have driven down demand for alternative-fuel vehicles.
During his administration, the federal government purchased 24,816 electric and hybrid vehicles of the 358,078 total vehicles added to the federal fleet. Obama cut government purchase goals on March 19.
