General Motors has now sold 3 million Chevrolet Cruze compact cars since launching the model in 2008 during the recession as the automaker refocused on more fuel efficient models.

GM sells the Cruze in 118 countries, offering the vehicle in three body styles, including a sedan, hatchback and wagon. GM offers five different engines, including 1.4-, 1.6-, and 1.8-liter gasoline as well as 1.7- and 2-liter diesel engines. For 2015, Chevrolet began offering a clean diesel engine for the U.S. market that provides more than 700 miles of range, according to GM.

Through July, China leads all markets in Cruze sales with 1.13 million. GM has sold 900,000 in the U.S., 195,000 in Russia, 134,000 in Brazil, and 123,000 in Canada. The other top 10 markets include South Korea, Mexico, Turkey, India, and South Africa.
