Florida's Gov. Rick Scott will test a highly automated Audi A7 during a July 28 testing event to demonstrate the automaker's approach to "piloted driving," according to Audi.

Scott will test the vehicle on Tampa's Selmon Expressway, which has been designed as a connected-car test bed. The A7 is equipped with technology that allows automated driving in freeway conditions up to 40 mph. Audi hopes to make its piloted driving technology, known as Traffic Jam Pilot, available to consumers within five years.

Gov. Scott signed a bill into law in 2012 (HB 1207) that allows testing of autonomous vehicles in the state, and encourages testing of the technology.
