The new Nissan Rogue (called the X-Trail in Europe) is the first vehicle built on the jointly developed Nissan/Renault Common Module Family (CMF) platform architecture and will be available in 190 countries, according to Nissan.

The 2014 Rogue CUV will be available in three models: S, SV, and SL. MSRP for the S model begins at $22,490 (USD) and goes up to $29,420 for the SL model. The vehicle is assembled at Nissan’s Smyrna, Tenn., plant.

Performance

Under the hood the Rogue features a 2.5L four-cylinder engine rated at 170 hp and 175 lb.-ft. of torque. The engine is matched with a standard Xtronic CVT (Continuously Variable Transmission), features standard Vehicle Dynamic Control, and four-wheel disc brakes with ABS and a choice of an all-wheel-drive system or front-wheel drive. Other driving and handling technologies include Active Trace Control, Active Engine Braking (which enhances acceleration and deceleration feel), and Active Ride Control.

For fuel economy, Nissan estimates the vehicle will achieve 33 mpg highway, which is an 18-percent improvement over the outgoing 2013-MY Rogue. City fuel economy is projected at 26 mpg, for an overall combined mpg of 28 in the front-wheel-drive models.

Exterior

On the outside, Nissan said the 2014-MY Rogue features standard halogen headlights with signature LED daytime running lights, available LED headlights, body-colored outside mirrors with integrated turn signals and rear spoiler. The automaker also offers a power panoramic moonroof and a power rear liftgate as exterior options.

Interior

Inside, the 2014 Rogue provides more space than in the outgoing model, with a 0.6-inch larger wheelbase, an overall height increase of 1.2 inches, and a wider opening for the rear doors (77 degrees) for easier entry and exit to the back seats. Nissan reduced the front overhang by 1.5 inches for 2014.

For cargo, the 2014 Rogue offers the Divide ‘n Hide Cargo System, which offers 18 adjustable variations, in the two-row versions of the Rogue, between the cargo and seating areas. The EZ Flex Seating System features a reclining 40/20/40-split second row seat and second-row legroom of 37.9 inches and 9.0 inches of fore/aft adjustability. Nissan offers leather-appointed seats as an option and two interior colors, Charcoal and Almond.

Other standard interior features include Fine Vision electroluminescent gauges, a front center console, power windows with driver's auto up/down, a 5.0-inch center meter color display, air conditioning with microfilter and adjustable second row vents, a four-speaker AM/FM/CD audio system with an auxiliary audio input jack, power door locks with auto-locking feature, LED maplights, a USB connection port for iPod interface and other compatible devices, a Bluetooth Hands-free Phone System, RearView Monitor, Streaming Audio via Bluetooth and Hands-free Text Messaging Assistant.

The available infotainment technology for the Rogue includes NissanConnect with Navigation and NissanConnect Apps. This system features a 7.0-inch color touch-screen display, Nissan Voice Recognition for navigation and audio, NavTraffic and NavWeather, and SiriusXM Travel Link (which requires a subscription). Nissan also offers a Bose audio system with nine speakers.

Safety

Safety features on the 2014-MY Rogue include the Around View Monitor with Moving Object Detection, which uses four cameras on the vehicle to provide a bird’s-eye view of objects around it. It can also provide split-screen close-ups of the front, rear and curb views to help a driver maneuver more easily. Moving Object Detection provides visual and audible warnings (front, side or back range object detection) if the system detects moving objects, such as another vehicle, within the displayed image. The system detects moving objects when the vehicle is in Park. When starting off or backing up, it detects moving objects crossing within the front or rear views of the cameras.

Other Rogue Safety Shield technologies include Blind Spot Warning (BSW), Lane Departure Warning (LDW), and Forward Collision Warning (FCW).
