According to data from Fleetmatics Group, reducing the amount of time the roughly 18.5 million commercial vehicles on U.S. roads spend idling by 25% could cut costs for businesses operating these vehicles by approximately $25 million per day. Also, reducing idling by 25% would cut CO2 (or CO2 equivalent) emissions by 62,941 metric tons per day.

The average commercial vehicle spends approximately 96 minutes per day, according to Fleetmatics’ data.

The company said it tracked data on its more than 331,000 subscribers to find out what kind of effect this reduction would have and the average amount of time commercial vehicles spend idling.
