Ford recently issued a recall for 2021-2022 F-Series Super Duty pickup trucks due to the rearview camera potentially displaying a blank or distorted image.
The recall, estimating 91,580 vehicles, includes 59,365 units of 2021-2022 Super Duty F-250, F-350, F-450, F-550, F-600 models, 21,088 units of 2021 Ford Expeditions, and 11,127 units of 2020-2022 Lincoln Corsairs.
Reason for the Recall
On October 1, 2024, an issue about rearview camera systems pertaining to specific 2021 Expedition, 2021-2022 Super Duty, and 2020–2022 Corsair vehicles equipped with Magna Analog cameras was brought to Ford’s Critical Concern Review Group (CCRG) for review.
A rearview camera intermittently displaying a blank or distorted image while in reverse can reduce or distort the driver’s view of what is behind the vehicle, increasing the risk of a crash.
From October through December 2024, Ford compared design differences between the suspect vehicle lines and others that utilize similar cameras supplied by Magna, including attachment, wiring, SYNC software, and Accessory Protocol Interface Module (APIM) differences. This review did not identify any contributing factors.
The remedy is under development. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed on February 17, 2025.
When the remedy is available, owners will be notified by mail and instructed to take their vehicle to a Ford or Lincoln dealer to have the remedy performed. There will be no charge for this service.
