SureCam and Blackout Technologies Launch Video Telematics with Mobile Device Blocking
The new fleet dashcam with mobile device blocking improves driver safety and limits distractions with no additional hardware required.

SureCam, a video telematics solutions provider, has teamed up with Blackout Technologies to develop a fleet dashcam with mobile device blocking that helps tackle the dangers of smartphone distraction.
The integrated solution is designed to eliminate the illegal use of messaging apps, social media platforms, streaming, and Internet browsing when driving.
“There is growing evidence that distraction from smartphone use is responsible for a large proportion of road collisions, so fleets are looking at ways to improve concentration levels behind the wheel and encourage responsible driving habits,” said Sam Footer, partnership director at SureCam. “By bringing together our leading dashcam solutions with Blackout Technologies’ device blocking tool, we can eliminate driver actions that dangerously divert attention away from the road.”
Enhancing Driver Focus and Safety at No Additional Cost
The integrated solution does not require additional hardware or installation costs. The Blackout Technologies app, installed on the driver’s smartphone, connects directly to the dashcam without needing a separate Bluetooth beacon.
The app activates when the vehicle is in motion, restricting encrypted messaging tools, the camera, and other popular apps while preventing incoming notifications for the duration of the journey. It also includes a two-minute delay to deter drivers from using their smartphones in stationary traffic.
“By removing temptation and fostering improved concentration, our mobile device blocking tool makes it possible to prevent many avoidable road injuries and deaths while enhancing overall driver and fleet performance,” said Mark Hadley, CEO of Blackout Technologies.

When a suspected collision has occurred, based on detecting a high g-force event, the technology will send a push notification to the driver within seconds to verify the incident and check on their welfare.
An alert is sent to the fleet manager and/or the claims management provider so they can respond swiftly.
