Toyota Motor Corporation has announced the Toyota bZ3, a battery-electric sedan developed for the Chinese market by BYD Toyota EV Technology Company (BTET), – a joint venture established by Toyota and BYD Company Ltd. (BYD) and FAW Toyota Motor Company.
The second model in Toyota’s bZ series, the bZ3 will be produced by and sold through the FAW Toyota dealer network.
Achieving a maximum cruising range of over 600 km (372 miles), the bZ3 power system combines BYD's lithium-ion LFP battery using lithium iron phosphate and Toyota's electrification technologies. The battery structure, cooling, control and safety monitoring systems were all newly designed for this model.
Toyota bZ3 uses the e-TNGA vehicle platform and joins the long wheelbase of a BEV-specific package with the long cabin of a fastback. Offering seating for five, the new Toyota model measures 4,725 mm (15.5 feet) long and 1,835 mm (6.6 feet) wide, with a 2,880 mm (9.4 feet) wheelbase. Its class-leading drag coefficient value is 0.218.
The sedan’s interior features a digital island system integrating a large vertical center display and tray-type console. In addition to wireless charging, the console offers functions for linking smartphones and multimedia as well as air conditioning, music and trunk release.
