The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) has recognized the 2022 Audi A4 allroad with its Top Safety Award.

The midsize luxury car was put through the paces, undergoing a series of six rigorous crashworthiness evaluations and acing them all with good scores. These included the driver-side small overlap front, passenger-side small overlap front, moderate overlap front, original side, roof strength, and head restraint tests.

But IIHS engineers set high standards for front crash prevention systems and headlights as well.

As it concerns front crash prevention, the A4 allroad exceeded IIHS demands. Its system earns superior ratings in both the vehicle-to-vehicle and vehicle-to-pedestrian evaluations and is standard across all trims.

Finally, to capture a Top Safety Pick, at least one good or acceptable headlight system must be available. In the case of the A4 allroad, the Top Safety Pick award applies only to the Prestige and Premium Plus trims, which come with good- and acceptable-rated headlights, respectively.

Unfortunately, the headlight system provided with the Premium trim on the four-door wagon earns just a marginal rating.
