Volkswagen unveiled to the world its new all-electric ID.Buzz and ID. Buzz Cargo models in Hamburg, Germany, on March 9.
“Both versions of the ID. Buzz are pioneering in terms of their sustainability: their manufacture and shipping has a carbon-neutral footprint. We are also using recycled synthetic materials and the interior is completely free of any real leather,” said Carsten Intra, chairman of the Board of Management of the Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles Brand.
A multi-passenger van (MVP), the ID. Buzz seats five in a 2:3 arrangement. The three-passenger bench seat can be folded down completely or split 40:60. The model’s interior space also accommodates 1.121 liters of luggage or 2.205 liters with second-row seats fully folded.
The ID. Buzz Cargo launches as standard with a three-seat cab. Behind the seats, a fixed partition separates the cargo space, featuring a capacity of two euro pallets with floor and side wall lashing rings to secure loads. The model is fitted with a wide-opening tailgate and passenger-side sliding door.
Built by Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles in Hanover, Germany, the ID. Buzz and ID. Buzz Cargo are launching across Europe with a 77-kWh battery, which provides current to a 150-kW electric motor. The lithium-ion battery can be charged from wall boxes or public charging stations using 11-kW alternating current. Future model plans include Plug & Charge and bidirectional charging options.
European pre-sales start in May with a market launch this autumn in a few European countries.
