The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration reports that the agency administered close to 900 safety recalls affecting more than 55 million vehicles and equipment in 2020. Fleet operators need to be vigilant and stay abreast of the latest recalls.
Recently, both Stellantis/FCA and Ford Motor Company issued safety recalls on vehicles often used by commercial fleets. The details follow.
Stellantis is recalling an estimated 38,157 2021 Ram 1500 pickup trucks for a rearview camera issue. Specifically, the Trailer Reverse Steering Control Module (TRSCM) may prevent the rearview image from displaying.
This scenario reduces the driver’s rear view, increasing the likelihood of a collision.
The automaker has confirmed that the remedy for this problem is still in development.
Owner notification letters will be mailed Jan. 12, 2022. Owners can reach customer service at (800) 853-1403. The reference number for this recall is Y80.
Ford is recalling approximately 114,996 2021-2022 Bronco Sport and Escape vehicles for a braking problem. Specifically, the rear brake linings may have been manufactured incorrectly, which can affect braking performance. For example, during certain situations the driver may have to apply more brake pedal force, and the distance required to stop the vehicle may be extended.
Situations such as these can be hazardous and up the chances for a crash.
Ford notes that the remedy for this braking problem is currently under development.
Owner notification letters will be mailed Jan. 10, 2022. Owners may contact Ford customer service at (866) 436-7332. Ford's reference number for this recall is 21C31.
