When the first issue of AF was published in 1961, founding editor Ed Bobit was solely responsible for content, but he was soon backed up by an excellent automotive editor named Roy Wiley, who came from the Chicago Tribune. While pioneers like Helen Bland and Helene Kamon set a tone of professionalism for women in fleet, the industry nevertheless was a real man's world well into the early 1980s. The pages of Automotive Fleet were replete with images of women draped over cars suggestively, and ads hinted at more than automotive performance.
