The problem has been reported in locations throughout the country, but is more concentrated in northern New Jersey, New York City, and its suburbs. The moon-blue headlights can cost between $2,000 and $5,000 to replace, depending on the amount of damage the thieves inflict on the car during the steal. John Tiene, president of the Insurance Council of New Jersey, told AP that he expected insurance companies to absorb the costs of stolen lights for a couple of years, and pressure manufacturers to make them harder to steal.
