Wisconsin Attorney General Peg Lautenschlager, under fire for her use of a state vehicle, reported being the victim of two hit-and-run crashes within six months last year, one of them in her own driveway, according to documents released to the Associated Press on May 5. The records, obtained through an open records request, also showed Lautenschlager regularly had her state-owned vehicle washed for more than the imposed limit of $7 without prior authorization. That includes a $65.95 charge to have the car detailed; the receipt was signed by her husband. Rules for vehicles assigned to state employees prohibit spouses from driving them and set limits on how often they can be washed and for how much, among other things. Lautenschlager turned in her 1999 Buick Park Avenue after her arrest in February for drunk driving. She drew reporters a diagram to explain how the vehicle was likely hit in her driveway and insisted her husband never drove the car alone, according to the Associated Press report.
