Volkswagen's 2019 Jetta has garnered a five-star overall safety rating from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration under its crash-testing program.
The Jetta was put through the paces to evaluate how well it would protect drivers and passengers in various collision scenarios. NHTSA conducts frontal, side and rollover tests because these types account for the majority of crashes on America's roadways. The sedan performed well in all tests.
The Jetta offers an assortment of both passive and active safety systems. It features six airbags, including driver, passenger, driver and passenger side, and full-length curtain — as standard along with a number of electronic safety systems.
An automatic post-collision braking system is standard on all Jettas. It applies the brakes when a primary collision is detected by the airbag sensors, helping reduce residual kinetic energy and, in turn, the chance of additional damage.
Other available driver-assistance features on the Jetta include forward collision warning and autonomous emergency braking, blind spot monitor, rear traffic alert, adaptive cruise control, active lane keeping system, and high beam control.
