VW Recalls 2018 Atlas for Air Bags

Volkswagen Group of America, Inc. is recalling approximately 9,685 2018 Atlas midsize SUVs for an issue with the air bags.
Specifically, the air-conditioning system's drain tube may have been twisted during production, allowing water to seep into the air-bag control module. A wet control module could potentially cause an unintended deployment of the air bags, which increases the likelihood of a crash.
To fix the problem, Volkswagen will notify owners, and dealers will inspect the air-conditioning drain tube. If it's twisted, the drain tube and air-bag control module will be replaced at no cost to owners, according to federal records.
Some of the affected vehicles have had their drain tube replaced previously. In those cases, the air-bag control module will now be replaced as well.
The recall begins Oct. 14. Owners can reach Volkswagen customer service at (800) 893-5298. Volkswagen's number for this recall is 87F9.
