Volkswagen AG's U.S. unit announced its hiring of Derrick Hatami as executive VP for sales and marketing for Volkswagen of America today, according to a report from Reuters.
Hatami previously worked for Hyundai's U.S. unit as sales chief since 2015, and announced his resignation from the company on Wednesday, citing personal reasons. His resignation followed a report from Hyundai indicating that U.S. sales dropped 18% in May against a 1% drop in the overall market.
Hatami joins Volkswagen as the company rolls out new SUVs in the U.S. to match demand for larger vehicles and regain momentum on lagging VW sales.
