Volvo has revealed a forthcoming battery-electric XC40 SUV, which includes several stylized designs that accommodate new technological benefits introduced to the vehicle, and features a new infotainment system.

Volov Cars partnered with Google to integrate an infotainment system powered by Android, with the Google Assistant, Google Maps and the Google Play Store built-in. The automaker also said the removal of an internal combustion engine for the XC40 EV helped create extra room for even more storage space under the front hood; the special front load compartment located under the front hood provides around 1,800 cubic inches of extra load space. Additionally, the battery pack is integrated into the floor of the car without affecting interior space.

The new infotainment system offers full integration of Android Automotive OS, Google’s open-source Android platform, with real-time updates to services such as Google Maps, Google Assistant and automotive apps created by the global developer community, Volvo said. Meanwhile, the SUVs front grille also neatly packages the sensors for the new Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) sensor platform, according to Volvo.

There is flexible customization of the SUV, including two new 19-inch and 20-inch wheel options, and eight available exterior colors. Inside, a brand-new driver interface specifically designed for electric cars keeps drivers up to date on relevant information such as battery status, while the interior design package features sporty styling details as well as carpets made of recycled materials.

It will also include a fold-out hook for small bags and a removable waste bin in the tunnel console. The fully electric XC40 will be first shown to the public on Oct. 16.
