DETROIT - The Chevrolet Volt has won the 2011 Edison Awards gold award in the personal transportation segment.

In the same category, the Copenhagen Wheel by SENSEable City Lab took the silver award, and the Nissan Leaf took the bronze.
The Edison Awards honor innovation in the spirit of American inventor and marketer Thomas Alva Edison.
The 2011 Edison Awards are sponsored by the Nielsen Co., Discovery Communications, Science Channel, Spencer Trask and USA Today. The Edison Awards are granted under the aegis of the Thomas A. Edison Papers at Rutgers University.
"Being selected as an Edison Award winner validates our drive to develop an all-new transportation solution," said Tony Posawatz, Chevrolet Volt vehicle line director. "Innovation has been at the heart of the Volt from its onset; from the development of the Li-ion battery to the drive unit and the driver connectivity."
The Edison Awards are voted on by roughly 2,000 members of the not-for-profit Marketing Executives Networking Group.
