Video: Nissan Debuts Smart Rearview Mirror

Nissan Motor Co. introduced its new Smart rearview mirror, which features a built-in LCD monitor, at the 2014 Geneva Motor Show.
The Smart rearview mirror, housed within the structure of the conventional rearview mirror, has a built-in LCD monitor that can be activated in place of the conventional mirror. The LCD monitor can provide clear rearward visibility while also letting the driver switch easily back to the traditional rearview mirror. A control at the bottom of the mirror operates the switch function.
A high-resolution camera mounted on the rear of the vehicle provides the driver with a clear, unobstructed view of the rear sides. This allows the driver to check blind spots and other traffic conditions.
Rearward visibility from conventional rearview mirrors can be obstructed when there are tall passengers in the rear seats or when luggage is stacked high in the rear compartment. However, with the Smart rearview mirror, rearward visibility is free from such obstructions, thanks to the camera mounted on the rear window that displays images on the LCD monitor.
