The United States Postal Service (USPS), in partnership with the Mobile Source Air Pollution Reduction Committee (MSRC), the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power (LADWP) and the Coalition for Clean Air (CCA), have joined to introduce the nation's largest elec-tric vehicle fleet. At a ceremony Sept. 19, officials from the partners and from the Los Angeles City Council officially began the roll out of the 400 vehicle USPS fleet serving the Los Angeles area. The vehicles can drive approximately 50 miles on a full charge, emission-free, while saving fuel costs as well, making them ideal for the stop-and-go of the traditional mail carrier service. Funding from the State of California, the MSRC and the LADWP, which helped bring the cost of each EV down from $42,000 to $22,000, facilitated the purchase of the vehicles.
