Each year, nearly two-and-a-half million illegal attempts are made at crossing our border from Mexico. What most of those undocumented immigrants don't know is how dangerous crossing a desert on foot can be. The U.S. Border Patrol has found it nearly impossible to rescue most of the stricken immigrants — until now. The Border Patrol has begun replacing many of its commercial SUVs with Hummer H1s because normal SUVs can't handle the severe conditions. Normal SUVs would literally break their frames in the soft sand, rocky terrain, and other conditions faced in the remote parts of the desert that illegals hide in. The Hummers will give the Border Patrol greater access to those parts of the desert, allowing them to give I.Vs, fluids and other care to immigrants who suffer from dehydration, heat exhaustion, and other ailments. The Border Patrol now has more than 100 Hummer H1s in its fleet.
