The Truck Renting and Leasing Association (TRALA) is opposing a bill introduced in the New York state legislature that would require all leased and rented trucks to be equipped with an approved back-up bell or warning device. The bill, introduced by Assemblyman Brian McLaughlin (D-Queens), has been assigned to the committee on Economic Development, Job Creation, Commerce and Industry, but has yet to be placed on the calendar for debate. A letter was sent by TRALA to Assemblyman McLaughlin, stating “Not only would targeting truck renting and leasing alone for the new requirement have little consequence on safety improvement, it would place our industry at a competitive disadvantage in relationship to purchased vehicles.” TRALA is working with the New York State Motor Truck Association to defeat the legislation.
