The federal government announced that it is increasing its efforts to develop a security strategy focusing on trucks, according to George Rodriguez, director of land and cargo security at the Transportation Security Administration (TSA). On Aug. 9, TRALA President Peter Vroom, Vice President for Government Relations Tom James, and Government Relations Committee Chairman Jim Rosen met with Rodriguez to discuss the government's security plans. Rodriguez mentioned several ideas under consideration by the TSA, including transportation worker identification cards and cargo screening methods, and discussed the possibility of mechanical security devices on trucks such as GPS or engine cut-off devices. In addition, Rodriguez emphasized the importance of adhering to well-developed procedures and the coor-dination of available customer information, especially in consumer truck rental transactions.
