TOKYO, JAPAN --- Toyota Motor Corp. has confirmed it will make hybrid vehicles in Europe for the first time next year, the Wall Street Journal reported.
Toyota said it will manufacture a hybrid version of the Auris subcompact hatchback in the U.K. starting in mid-2010. The automaker expects to spend three billion yen ($32 million) to prepare for production of the vehicles, the newspaper reported.
The U.K. will be the fifth country outside Japan where Toyota makes or has plans to make hybrids. Toyota already manufactures hybrids in China and the U.S. and plans to begin production in Thailand this month and in Australia in early 2010.
Toyota hopes to offer hybrid versions of all of its vehicles by 2020, the Wall Street Journal reported.
