Toyota Recalls Sienna Minivans for Gear Shift Problem

Toyota Motor Engineering & Manufacturing is recalling 263 2014 model-year Sienna minivans because they may have a damaged transmission shift control cable sleeve, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration reports.

This condition could cause the control cable to bind or separate during gear shift operation. As a result, the driver could unwittingly put the vehicle in the wrong gear. Moreover, the driver may believe the transmission is in the “park” position when it isn’t. This creates the possibility of the vehicle rolling away when it’s unattended, NHTSA said.

Toyota dealers will inspect and replace the transmission shift control cable, as needed, free of charge.

The recall affects Sienna minivans manufactured from June 17 through June 24 of this year. Vehicle owners can contact Toyota customer service at 1-800-331-4331.
