Toyota Motor Engineering & Manufacturing (Toyota) is recalling an estimated 227,490 2018-2019 Camry vehicles because the vane cap inside the vacuum pump may break. This scenario can cause the pump to fail, which could result in a sudden loss of braking assist.

Any unexpected loss in braking assist can be dangerous and increases the likelihood of a collision.

To fix the problem, dealers will repair or replace the vacuum pump, as necessary, at no cost to owners.

Owner notification letters will be mailed on Dec. 16. Owners may contact Toyota customer service at (800) 331-4331.

In the U.S., over 50 million vehicles have unrepaired safety recalls and many of this recalls involve defective parts that pose serious risks to drivers, according to the National Safety Council.
