Toyota Motor North America is recalling 7,100 2016-model year Toyota Highlanders because the brake fluid level sensor wire harness in these mid-size SUVs may not be properly connected.

In these vehicles, the wire harness that attaches to the brake fluid reservoir sensor may not have been connected during the vehicle assembly process, according to Toyota. If this is the case, a warning light will not come on to indicate a drop in fluid level. This condition raises the risk of a crash and also makes the vehicle out of compliance with federal safety standards.

Vehicle owners will be notified by mail, starting in early November. Toyota dealers will check to ensure the brake fluid level sensor wire harness is properly connected, and connect it if necessary.
