Toyota Motor North America officially opened its $1 billion headquarters in Plano, Texas, with an event to provide the public a closer look at the campus.
President Trump praised the automaker's investment and said it would help the U.S. become the "car capital of the world." Toyota has said it would spend $10 billion over the next five years on its U.S. infrastructure, including $1.3 billion on its car manufacturing plant in Georgetown, Ky.
"We are working tirelessly to eliminate industry-killing regulations, to lower job-crushing taxes, and to ensure a level playing field for all American companies and workers," Trump said in a statement. "Bringing manufacturing back to America, after years of watching our jobs shipped off to faraway lands, is one of my top priorities as president."
Toyota built its new headquarters on 100 acres in Plano, and relocated thousands of workers from California, Kentucky and other areas. Toyota began occupying the facility in the spring. It can accommodate up to 4,000 workers.
