  • Volkswagen has unveiled specific plans for its 2027 vehicle lineup.
  • The 2027 models feature a range of new enhancements and updates.
  • Details on the new vehicle features have been shared with the public.

*Summarized by AI

Volkswagen announced the 2027 model-year lineup. The biggest change to the range is the addition of the new Atlas and Atlas Cross Sport. The 2027 Atlas has new design and tech, more standard premium features, and a stronger turbocharged 2.0-liter engine than the previous model. The 2027 Atlas Cross Sport will be introduced later in the year.

The ID. Buzz returns for MY27 with a new Tourer variant, updated software features, and revised color options.

For model year 2027, premium connected services will be bundled into a single premium subscription. Depending on the model, this includes available features:

  • Navigation that includes real-time traffic and online POI
  • Speech that incorporates ChatGPT
  • A radio that allows access to more than 30,000 radio stations and more than 1 million podcasts
  • Wi-Fi hotspot capability – with new app store enabler for ID. Buzz
  • A new myQ Connected Garage, which adds remote access to your garage via in-vehicle touchscreen, voice command, geo-fencing, and the myVW app
  • New travel Assist with assisted lane changing and available road data for ID. Buzz
  • New AirConsole, which allows you to use the infotainment center as a gaming platform in conjunction with passengers’ smartphones
  • New What3Words, which replaces complex coordinates with simple three-word addresses, making precise navigation easier

Two advanced driver-assist systems are significantly enhanced on Atlas ID. Buzz, Golf family, and Tiguan. Travel Assist now features assisted lane changes with an “on hold” wait-for-clear function, improved lane centering, and enhanced predictive Adaptive Cruise Control (pACC). In addition, emergency assist can now automatically move the vehicle to the right shoulder and bring it to a halt if it detects no driver interaction, as in the case of a medical emergency.

Select MY27 vehicles are expected to begin arriving in dealer showrooms in August, and others will be launched through early 2027.

Atlas and Atlas Cross Sport

The 7-seater Atlas midsize SUV has been completely redesigned for MY27, including new sheet metal and redesigned front and rear lighting.

New standard features include a power liftgate, rear sunshades, an auto-dimming driver-side mirror, dual hatch lights, and front and rear park distance control. A new front-center airbag brings the total to seven, and the new Atlas features refinements to the standard IQ.DRIVE driver assistance technology.

Finally, Atlas is fitted with the latest evo5 version of Volkswagen’s EA888 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine, now making 282 horsepower, the most ever for an Atlas. It is anticipated that this engine will also offer better fuel economy than the previous model. Final EPA-estimated fuel economy will be released at a later date. As before, the Atlas will be offered in front-wheel-drive and 4Motion all-wheel-drive form.

Further details, including trims and pricing for Atlas, will be revealed closer to launch this fall. Details of the 2027 Atlas Cross Sport will be announced closer to the model’s reveal later this year.

Golf GTI and Golf R

For 2027, Golf GTI models continue to be available in S, SE, and Autobahn trims, with Light Assist (automatic high beam adjustment) and KESSY keyless access moving down from the SE to the base S trim.

The 2027 Golf R is once again available in two trims, with the return of the black edition model featuring blacked-out emblems and accents; black brake calipers, wheels, exhaust tips, and mirror caps; and darkened headlamp housings. Both trims are available with the Euro Style Package, which deletes the sunroof and adds fabric ArtVelours sport seats and an Akrapovic titanium exhaust, for a weight-saving of nearly 80 pounds.

ID.4

ID.4 models will remain available in the U.S. through the current MY26 inventory, which is expected to support customer demand into 2027. A future version of the ID.4 is currently planned for the North American market, and details will be shared at a later date.

ID. Buzz

After a hiatus for model year 2026, the ID. Buzz rejoins the 2027 Volkswagen model lineup with a new offer structure—trims now include Pro S RWD, Pro S 4Motion (new), Tourer 4Motion (new), and Pro S Plus 4Motion. The lineup also features revised color and wheel options.

Built off the Pro S 4Motion model, the ID. Buzz Tourer adds a retractable tow hitch, Captain’s Chairs, an electrochromic smart roof, Area View, and 20-inch dark graphite wheels with black discs.

All ID. Buzz models feature Volkswagen’s latest ID.6 software. This android-based system introduces enhanced content to improve the user experience, including a refreshed home navigation screen for quicker input and a new vehicle settings page for more intuitive access to interior features. ID. Buzz models come with a one-year trial of in-vehicle premium, which introduces the new App Store offering in-vehicle access to popular third-party apps such as YouTube and Spotify.

The ID. Buzz also features a North American Charging System (NACS) adapter and one pedal driving functionality.

The color offer has been simplified to reduce complexity. Only two-tone paint schemes will be offered, and new Candy White over Cherry Red scheme with white wheels evokes an iconic Type 2 Microbus color combination. The top trim now offers an optional 21-in wheel package.

Jetta and Jetta GLI

The Jetta will continue to be offered in S, Sport, SE, and SEL trims, and the GLI will be available in one fully loaded Autobahn trim. The S and Sport trims get a number of upgrades for 2027, including the Composition Media infotainment system, which adds satellite radio, voice control, and two additional speakers for a total of six, as well as available Premium Speech with AI and premium radio. In addition, S and Sport now have KESSY keyless access and push-button start. All models have an enhanced rear seatbelt reminder.

TAOS

The big news for Volkswagen’s entry compact SUV in 2027 is the addition of a Sport trim; similar to the Jetta lineup, it sits just above the entry model, with the trims running S, Sport, SE, SE Black Package, and SEL.

The sport trim features black 18-inch wheels, roof rails, a spoiler, and a rear 4Motion badge; gloss-black exterior mirror caps; and gunmetal front bumper trim, a rear skid plate, and exhaust tips. Inside, the Sport adds yellow interior stitching, embossed black cloth seats, and privacy glass.

In addition, the S trim upgrades for 2027 include the Composition Media infotainment system, which adds satellite radio, voice control, and two additional speakers for a total of six, as well as available Premium Speech with AI and Premium Radio. In addition, it now has KESSY keyless access and an enhanced rear seatbelt reminder.

Tiguan

Trims for model year 2027 include S, SE, SE R-Line Black, and the SEL R-Line Turbo. There are minimal changes for this model year: the rear-view camera is now standard on all models, the area view on the SEL R-Line Turbo features improved image quality, a heated steering wheel is now standard on the SE R-Line Black, and all trims now feature the auto hold function.
