Corpus Christi, TX, earned America’s “Most Driveable City” distinction in a recent study of driving conditions in 77 U.S. metropolitan areas. Two other Texas cities -Brownsville and Beaumont - ranked second and third, respectively. The cities earned near perfect scores for low gas prices, pleasant climate, traffic flow, and average travel time. Two Florida cities - Pensacola and Ft. Myers - rounded out the top five. The study was conducted by automotive services provider Pep Boys and Bert Sperling, creator of Money magazine's "Best Place to Live" flagship article. Los Angeles was rated the least driveable city in the U.S., in part due to the longest average travel time. San Francisco, which had the highest gas prices in the country, was the second least driveable city. Chicago, Denver, and Boston filled out the five least driveable cities. The study found that in general, cities in the Northeast ranked poorly (#44 Philadelphia; #53 Hartford, CT; #70 New York) with cities in the South consistently ranked high in driveablity thanks to lower gas prices, average travel time, and fair climate.
