Tesloop announced that its electric Model S 90D, also known as the eHawk, achieved the world's highest reported mileage for a Tesla, passing the 400,000-mile mark.

The company said hundreds of Tesloop drivers used the vehicle to transport thousands of passengers throughout Southern California and Nevada since July 2015. Ninety percent of trips taken used the eHawk's autopilot feature.

The maintenance cost for the Model S totaled $19,000, split between $6,700 for general repairs and $12,000 for regularly scheduled maintenance. The vehicle's battery was replaced twice throughout its 400,000 miles.

The milestone follows the hypermiling record, set by a Tesla Model 3, according to Inside EVs. Hypermiling is an efficiency testing technique to maximize range and minimize fuel consumption. The Model 3 traveled 622 miles on a single battery charge.

Nextmove, a German electric rental car company, achieved the record, testing both manned and unmanned Model 3 cars, with the autonomous vehicle traveling further by 14 miles.
