Tesla, Inc. is recalling an estimated 24,064 2017-2022 Model 3 vehicles for a seat belt problem. Specifically, the second-row left seat belt buckle and second-row center seat belt anchor may have been incorrectly reassembled during vehicle service.

This scenario can impair the performance of the seat belt during a crash, which increases the likelihood of injury.

To fix the problem, Tesla will inspect and reassemble the seat belt anchors as necessary at no cost to customers.

The electric vehicle manufacturer first began investigating this problem in August 2022 after customers or service technicians noted the second row center seat belt anchor was not being secured after service repairs that called for disassembly of the components. In mid-October, Tesla completed the investigation and confirmed the root cause. A recall determination was issued the same day.

Tesla said it had reports of 105 service repairs, including warranty claims, associated with this recall issue. The company is not aware of any crashes, injuries, or fatalities related to this condition.

Owner notification letters will be mailed on Dec. 20, 2022. Owners can reach Tesla customer service at (877) 798-3752. Tesla's reference number for this recall is SB-22-20-004.
