Tesla Opens Patents to Accelerate EV Development

Tesla CEO Elon Musk announced that the company has made its technology available to other vehicle manufacturers in hopes that it will spur the development of electric vehicles (EV).

Tesla CEO Elon Musk announced that the company has made its technology available to other vehicle manufacturers in hopes that it will spur the development of electric vehicles (EV).

"Yesterday, there was a wall of Tesla patents in the lobby of our Palo Alto headquarters. That is no longer the case. They have been removed, in the spirit of the open source movement, for the advancement of electric vehicle technology," wrote Musk in a blog on the Tesla site.

Musk also stated that Tesla will not sue against anyone who use the technology when their own EVs. The move is lauded by some who see this as a way to invigorate the EV industry and questioned by others who are wondering why Tesla would give away the keys to the kingdom from free.
