Tesla Motors unveiled its long-awaited 2016 Model X at a Sept. 29 media event as a sleek, futuristic battery-electric luxury SUV that arrives at a time when sales of EVs have struggled to surmount low fuel prices.
The Model X 90D model provides an EPA-estimated range of 257 miles, while the Model X P90D model has a 250-mile range.
Tesla will sell every Model X with a standard 90-kilowatt-hour battery and all-wheel drive. The SUV's "falcon wing" rear doors with built-in sensors can open in garages of any height, and the vehicle includes a rear hitch for bikes or skis, free long-distance travel on Tesla's expanding supercharger network, parking sensors and blind-spot warning, automatic emergency braking, and power-folding and heated side mirrors.
The Model X is also the first electric vehicle with a 5,000-pound towing capacity, according to Tesla.
The standard Model X trim starts at $75,000, while the Model X Signature trim is priced at $132,000.
