Jaguar Land Rover has initiated a recall of about 54,000 vehicles with faulty Takata air bags from the model years of 2007 to 2011, the company announced Aug. 4.
The company is recalling 2009 to 2011 Jaguar XF sedans and 2007 to 2011 Land Rover Range Rover SUVs.
The vehicles were registered in nine states, including Alabama, California, Florida, Georgia, Hawaii, Georgia, Louisiana, Mississippi, South Carolina, and Texas. Several were registered in U.S. territories, including Puerto Rico, American Samoa, Guam, the Northern Mariana Islands (Saipan), and the U.S. Virgin Islands.
As parts become available, later this year, affected owners will be notified by a second mailing and instructed to schedule an appointment to take their vehicle to a Jaguar or Land Rover retailer who will replace the front passenger airbag module free of charge.
This recall is part of the May 4 expansion of what was already the largest and most complex safety recall in U.S. history that has affected about 68 million cars and trucks on the road today fitted with Takata non-desiccated ammonium nitrate airbag inflators.
