Subaru will expand its fledgling network of certified collision repair shops by opening enrollment to independent collision centers nationwide starting Jan. 1, the automaker announced.

The network launched in March 2018 and began retailer enrollment in June, as a way to ensure that repair shops maintained the proper training and equipment necessary to restore vehicles to their original factory specifications.

Subaru has over 600 dealers nationwide. To date, 24 have been certified or are close to obtaining certification for inclusion in the network and more than 70 have shown strong interest in joining the network, according to Subaru.

The 2019 goal of adding independent collision centers outside the retailer network will allow the automaker to better serve owners with safe, correct and efficient repairs in more locations across the country.

To participate in the network, collision centers will be required to pass a rigorous audit and meet all criteria outlined by Subaru and Wadsworth International, a team of experts the automaker brought on board to help support the initiative. For example, collision centers will be expected to attain I-CAR Gold Class certification, proper tools specifications, outstanding customer service, and accurate documentation procedures.

Finally, inclusion in the network requires that collision centers use Genuine Subaru Collision Parts, which are identically engineered to meet the same strict safety and quality standards as the original equipment used to manufacture the vehicle.

All certified collision centers will also be asked to participate in at least one volunteer event throughout the year with a local non-profit of their choice.
