STANFORD, CA – Stanford University, a private university in Stanford, Calif., has amended its fleet policy for its employees and departments. The policy now requires employees to agree in writing to the university’s vehicle use and the controlled substance and alcohol policy. Each department at Stanford will appoint a local, departmental-level fleet manager to ensure compliance with the vehicle use policies, including maintaining accurate records. They are allowed to establish more strict usage guidelines as well, according to the revised policy. In addition, the policy requires university departments to work with the university's Fleet Garage when acquiring new vehicles.
For employees driving university vehicles, each must be 21 years old to do so, though this requirement can be waived if a department grants an employee permission. The policy also requires departments to maintain more detailed sign-out records for university-owned vehicles, and that keys to university vehicles be securely stored.
