Sprint Selects Airbiquity as a Technology Provider for Its Sprint Velocity Solution
SEATTLE - The two companies have reached an agreement to use the Airbiquity Choreo service delivery platform within the Sprint Velocity solution for vehicle manufacturers.
SEATTLE – Sprint, a market leader in engineering and deploying innovative wireless communications services, today announced its selection of Airbiquity as a technology provider for its Sprint Velocity global connected vehicle solution. Airbiquity is a global leader in wireless connected vehicle services. The two companies have reached an agreement to use the Airbiquity Choreo service delivery platform within the Sprint Velocity solution for vehicle manufacturers.
“Sprint is leading the way in helping automakers more easily and affordably provide connected services in their autos and passenger trucks, and we are excited to expand our capability through pivotal relationships with market leaders like Airbiquity,” said Wayne Ward, vice president, Emerging Solutions, Sprint. “Airbiquity’s Choreo is a valuable addition to our Sprint Velocity ecosystem, providing a potent technology option for the integration of in-vehicle communication systems.”
Sprint is actively working with industry-leading technology providers to pioneer mobile integration and enablement for auto manufacturers, as well as other connected transportation solutions. Connected transportation technologies play an increasingly important role in reducing environmental impact, supporting the development of smart grid/electric vehicle implementations, and minimizing driver distraction. Sprint and Airbiquity are also exploring additional market segments where they might collaborate, including other transportation and medical markets.
“Wireless operators have significant market reach and scale and are playing a pivotal role in the design of connected vehicle solutions,” said John Canali, senior analyst of the Global Automotive Practice at Strategy Analytics. “Combining the scale of wireless operators with the capabilities of category specialists would be very attractive to a number of automotive companies.”
“Sprint is a true wireless innovator and M2M market leader, and Airbiquity is pleased to contribute its expertise and experience to the groundbreaking Sprint Velocity connected vehicle solution,” said David Jumpa, chief revenue officer, Airbiquity. “Our proven track record, matched with the flexible and resilient nature of our Choreo service delivery platform, will enable us to bring global solutions to market for the many complex M2M service challenges facing more and more industries.”
