An international fleet business conference, known as the Spring Fleet Meeting, was held on April 28 at the Warsaw Marriott hotel. The meeting was sponsored by FMI Polska and FLOTA magazines. The magazines reported that anti-globalist demonstrations expected in Warsaw did not deter hundreds of invited guests from participating in the event. Representatives from the fleet sector, suppliers of fleet services and fleet managers attended a series of forums focused on the development of fleet business in the enlarged Europe. Conference speakers were from Belgium, the United Kingdom, Russia, The Czech Republic, Poland, and Germany. The Spring Fleet Meeting was designed to be a meeting place and forum for an exchange of ideas between representatives of major fleet companies and their clients. Discussions focused on Polish legal regulations, on accession to EU, as well as on optimizing activities in the context of new value added tax (VAT) regulations. The Spring Meeting also featured the Fleet Awards 2004 ceremony. A jury, consisting of prominent fleet business representatives, awarded prizes in the Company Fleet of the Year and Fleet Manager of the Year categories. Prizes for best company cars in several categories were awarded by users and fleet managers, who expressed their opinions over the Internet in 2003. The award for Fleet Manager of the Year went to Radosław Wnuk of the Žywiec Group. British American Tobacco Polska S.A received the award for the best managed fleet. The winners of the best fleet car awards were the Toyota Yaris in the small car category, the Ford Focus in the mid-size cars category, and the BMW 5 Series for best executive car.
